Over 260 people came out to support the Community Food Share 5k Turkey Trot dealing with an unusually snowy Thanksgiving morning. The event is always a fun family event and this year did not disappoint despite the snow. Runners donated 400 pounds of food and $400 to Community Food Share. There were 20 pairs of shoes donated to One World Running. Flatirons Running helped to organize the race and provided participant tee shirts, a first for the race.
While this used to be one of the most highly contested local races in the area, numbers have been down over the last few years, perhaps to the rise of other competitive and local races like in Louisville, Broomfield and as far out as Fort Collins. The accumulation of a few inches of fresh snow plus a new course with tight turns around the CU Research Park campus made for slower times on the slippery course. Boulder Track Club’s Joe Zamadics, running under an alias, decisively won the race overall with a time of 16:55 while Maor Tiyouri was the first woman across the line in 18:04 also placing 4th overall.
