Cloudy skies and rain earlier in the day set up cooler weather for the West End 3k, kicking off the Boulder Downtown Race Series. The series had moved up in dates from previous years and just happened coincide on National Running Day on June 5. Over 230 men, women, and kids participated in 4 separate races from the Kids’ 1500 to the Elite men’s 3k while Olympian and Bolder Boulder Co-Founder Frank Shorter and Boulder’s running encyclopedia Mike Sandrock added color commentary to the races.
Teador Cariov of Boulder took out the kids race and never looked back. He ran 5:33 for the 1500 distance. Joshua Ostroski of Longmont won the Open Wave with a time of 11:19, Nicole Feest pushed the second lap and came away with the win running 10:11 in the Elite women’s wave and Scott Dahlberg of Fort Collins was able to hold off the 2013 Boston Marathon’s 4th place finisher Justin Hartman with a time of 8:40. Art Siemers and Colleen De Reuck took the Master’s titles.

The second race in the Downtown Race Series will be the Pearl Street Mile held on Wednesday (*note day change) July 10 at 5:30 this year and the third and final race the East End 2k will be held on Saturday August 10.
