Despite the snow Boulder received just a few days prior, warm temperatures and dry ground looked to make it a perfect day for running the Fast and Flurry-ous Cross Country race on Sunday January 26. But to keep it interesting, the westerly winds kicked up to add more challenge for the runners through 4.1 miles around Viele Lake and the Harlow Platts Park around the South Boulder Rec Center.

The women’s race led off the morning and was tightly contested race from start to finish between Boulder Track Club‘s Ellie Keyser of Fort Collins followed on heels by Newton Elite‘s Kristen Arendt of Niwot. In the end it was Ellie Keyser who was able to was able to hold off Arendt for second.

Following, in the men’s race, Brent Vaughn, who recently moved back to the area from a stint in Portland, took to an early lead and crushed the field leading my almost minute over second place finisher  Newton Elite‘s Tyler McCandless fresh off of the US Half Marathon Champs in Houston.
