Over the course of the last three decades, Ultimate Direction (UD) has become a go-to brand for performance and innovation. Since the creation of the first ever hydration backpack, UD has gone on to create a number of category-changing products including the leakproof, high volume / leak-proof Kicker Cap, the Signature Series vests, the women’s specific Jenny Collection, and the Fundamentals apparel collection, due to arrive next fall.
Founded in 1985 in Rexburg, Idaho, Ultimate Direction (UD) created an entirely new outdoor gear category with the world’s first hydration-specific backpacks, waistbelts, and handhelds. Since then, UD has helped runners, hikers, cyclists, and skiers with countless innovative products.
When Trail Running luminary Buzz Burrell joined UD as their Brand Manager he quickly developed a top notch athlete “advisory board” consisting of Scott Jurek, Anton Krupicka, Peter Bakwin. As a team they released the Signature Series Vests, the Scott Jurek Essentials Collection and the first-ever line crafted specifically for women, the Jenny Collection that have defined the category.
“For 30 years, Ultimate Direction products have enabled people to go further, faster, and easier, which helped define what a hydration pack is,” said Buzz Burrell, Ultimate Direction Brand Manager. “Recently our Signature Series Vests literally changed the entire hydration category again, our Fundamentals collection of technical apparel is coming this fall, so it’s time to celebrate.”
Ultimate Direction products are now designed by some of the best athletes in the world, such as Scott Jurek, Anton Krupicka, Peter Bakwin, Timothy Olson, Michelle Yates, and Sage Canaday. Many of whom were present for a Q&A when UD celebrated its 30th Birthday party at the Boulder Premiere of Run Free, a film about Micah True (a.k.a. Caballo Blanco) on May 28.
