Kara Goucher wins 10,000m Bronze in the 2007 World Championships in Osaka JapanKara Goucher CU

Two time Olympian and former CU Buff, Kara Goucher will return to Boulder Jan 1, 2014 to train with former coach Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs.

“Follow your heart” is one of my favorite sayings. I’ve trusted my instincts a lot in my life, and it has gotten me pretty far.

And so here I am, 35 years old, 12 1/2 years into a professional career, and I am following my heart again. Adam, Colt, and I are moving back to Boulder, CO. I am returning to finish out my elite career under the program in which I started. Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs are my new/old coaches. I could not feel better or more confident about this decision.

Kara announced was posted on her new website KaraGoucher.com

Goucher is possibly the most celebrated and acclaimed women’s athlete in CU athletic history as a Individual XC Champion, 3,000 and 5,000M Champ, 7 time All-American and 2008, 20012 USA Olympian. She was also the first American woman to ever medal in the women’s 10,000-meter run in the world championships, claiming the bronze in Osaka, Japan, in August 2007. In her marathon debut in the NYC Marathon she finished 3rd, and ran a personal best of 2:24:52 and a 5th place finish in the 2011 Boston Marathon.

Recently she had to drop out of the NYC Marathon due to a stress fracture in her foot where instead she spent the weekend with husband Adam and son Colt here in the area spectating at the Pac-12 champs held in Louisville in November.

Goucher joins fellow Buffs and Olympians

Goucher will be in good training company as she will join former Buffs and Olympians Emma Coburn and Jenny Simpson, who returned to Boulder last year.

Wetmore’s coaching success recently took the CU Men’s Cross Country team to their 4th National Cross Country Championship and was named Men’s National Coach of the Year.

She has also launched a new interactive website Karagoucher.com which will be an interactive platform for Kara to personally connect with a community of fans and share experiences and inspirations amongst all her readers. In conjunction with her new website, Kara will share training tips and advice from her new training team.

Exciting times for running and Boulder. Perhaps we will see her at the US XC Champs in February.
