While you are there you should check out the Shoe Dog fitting system that is at the center of the shoe buying process to help determine what type of shoe is best suited for you. Through its six step process a customer is lead through a series of questions to help identify where they are as a runner. You step on pressure pads and get a reading of where you are applying the most pressure in your stance. You also get video replay as you jog barefoot so you can see how your foot lands without the aid of footwear. All of this helps give you a unique identifier so that you can more easily find the right shoe for you. I am a “Performance Neutral”.

You also have an option to be fitted for their performance footbed right there in the store that is custom fit to your foot. They offer a small amount of support to help guide your foot back into its neutral position without a stiff orthotic and it adds extra padding too.

Once you know the type of shoe you are looking for the helpful shoe experts can help you find the perfect shoe.

I first started going to RRS when I lived in San Diego back in the 90’s. I always found that they offer a wide selection of shoes of all the major shoe brands. It is nice to be able to try shoes on and have a knowledgable staff to ask questions to yet pay prices more on par with the prices you can find online. I should mention, that in order to get their best rates or what they refer to as their “VIP” rates, you must pay for their annual membership which, if you shop there a couple times a year, will definitely pay for itself. Even though they are a nation-wide chain, they offer all of the personalized services of the typical hometown, running specialty store.

They are also very active within the local running scene sponsoring a wide selection of races, offering weekly training runs and adventure runs, and host quite a few running related seminars throughout the year. Finally, they carry a great selection of running supplies and apparel.
