Skirt Sports Celebrates its Grand Opening in Style
Skirt Sports celebrated the Grand Opening of its flagship retail location, which just opened its doors in late May, in typical Skirt style. With free Chipotle, drinks, and even a fashion show; the shiny new store attracted a supportive crew with a big cause for celebration.
Nicole DeBoom, the founder of Skirts Sports, spells “Skirt Sports” with 3 fundamental “S’s”: Support, Smile, and Celebrate (the last is a “soft S”, she says). During the grand opening of the Boulder store last night, she shared these three S’s as the most important factors for success and Survival (one more S) of their Boulder start-up.
Attendees of the grand opening gained an insight into the inspiration behind the skirts: Nicole, while racing as a professional triathlete in the early 2000’s, realized that the psychology of “look good feel good” was actually effective. She didn’t feel good in the men’s triathlon apparel she was racing in, and found women-specific athletic apparel to be scarce-to-none.
So she acted on an idea and sewed together the first running skirt before the 2004 Ironman Wisconsin. She went on to win the race in the skirt. This first running skirt now hangs on the Wall of Fame in the Skirt Sports store, surrounded by women’s apparel created with the same intentions for women everywhere.
The evening was highlighted by a “runway show” with a peek into its latest styles.
