Starting off the year right
Posted on 01. Jan, 2010
I believe am not alone in the quest for starting off the year in the right direction, setting expectations through my initial run.
Recovering from a late New Year’s Eve and spending time with my family all morning, it wasn’t till after three in the afternoon when I headed out with no real plans on a course except to just head up to the trails. With YakTrax in hand, I started slowly up to Bear Creek Trail below NCAR. The dirt service road was packed with snow

iPhone + iPod Carrying Options While Running or Fitness
Posted on 06. Dec, 2009
Recently I had a question on Twitter from @ColRunner about how I carry my iPhone while running. I do some testing of iPhone Apps and like to take photos along my running routes, so I need to have complete access to it. The simplest option I have found so far is just holding it in my hands. It can be burdensome at times like when I am trying to do some speed work or drills, so I have started some research on armbands and other options to use with the iPod, iPhone, Blackberry Storm or any other touch screen device. Here is what I know so far…

Colorado Athletic Club – Boulder
Posted on 05. Dec, 2009
Going to a gym on a regular basis has always been a tough thing for me. More often than not, my time is limited, and deciding between running outside in beautiful Boulder or be in the gym, running usually wins out. Posted on 28. Nov, 2009
I am not so great about keeping traditions. Its not that I don’t want to make and keep with them. I love the idea of doing something annually for the sake of consistency, meeting up with friends new and old, and now introducing my children to those things I love and feel are important. I believe this is the allure of the Turkey Trot as part of our holiday tradition.

In-Step Boulder
Posted on 27. Nov, 2009
South Boulder’s only running store Active Imprints had a built a sizable cult following. Their key location in the Table Mesa Shopping center had good parking and great access to trails/bike paths south of town. They made custom insoles for the some of the best athletes in the region as well as the world. RL Smith worked there for many years, learning the trade of building custom lightweight orthotics while working in the retail space.
So when the store’s owners broke off to concentrate on the Newton Running brand, it seemed natural that RL Smith and wife Tricia Vieth would open In-Step at the same location.

Posted on 20. Nov, 2009
On a run a few weeks ago, I ran by a row of young trees lining a road that had failed to relinquish their leaves to the season. I thought it odd at the time, but given the warm weather, not surprising perhaps.
Lately I’ve really been feeling the effects of living. The delicate balance of work, family, social, community and of course running isn’t quite in-sync.

Last month, Google asked the public to submit nominations for where to first send the new trike. And the Boulder Creek Path made it to the list of finalists in the “parks and trails” category. Now the paved path that snakes from Boulder Canyon along the creek to flats east of town will compete against paths in California, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington for first dibs on the picture-taking bike.
