Emil Zatopek was born September 22, 1922 in Czechoslovakia and holds Eighteen world records, Olympic Medals in the 1948 Olympics; Gold in the 10k, Silver in the 5k. He was also Olympic gold medalist in the 5k, 10k and Marathon in 1952. It is the first chapter in Sandrock’s Book, Running with the Legends – Training and Racing Insights from 21 Great Runners. Sandrock visited Zatopek three times in his Prague home, before the “Immortal Czech” passed away in November of 2000. This chapter from ‘Running with the Legends’ was based on those visits and interviews while conducted over meals and beer.
