The thrill of the mile. On the track. At a mile high. It’s happening right here in Boulder. It’s a high-energy event called The Mile High Mile.
On the evening of August 15, at historic CU Potts Field, watch an exciting track race that will get everyone’s hearts pumping. Witness elite athletes dig deep for speed. Join fellow fans in cheering runners to their best. Help the community showcase a new, first-of-its-kind event. The Mile High Mile will move in the schedule be the final event of the Boulder Road Runners All-Comers Meet. This allows for cooler temperatures and a finale event to cap off the night. The Mile High Mile will feature 4 heats: All-comers, faster than ~6 minutes and a separate Men’s and Women’s elite fields. (See below) There will be an announcer with music, finish line tape, FAT timing, a live scoreboard for all participants and a podium presentation for the elite fields. That’s right; all this excitement in the intimate setting of the track.
Citizens and elites each get their turn to toe the line. Four laps around the track makes for one of the best spectating events in town.
The Mile High Mile is yet another milestone to add to Boulder’s world-class athletic scene. More importantly, the event is filling a gap in a running town that needs more track races.
Thanks to the Boulder Road Runners, the Mile High Mile is part of the club’s All-Comers Summer Track and Field Meet. Following the meet’s gamut of track and field events from the 100m to 3k, the race will take stage. The Mile High Mile will start with at least two waves of runners of all abilities, preceding both the men’s and women’s elite race, rather than earlier in the evening as usual.
Spectators
Race first then stay and cheer on the elites! Even if you are not planning on participating, please come on out and cheer our local athletes of all levels on as they chase PRs, and fast times. We promise it will be a high energy event.
Timing
Timing for all mile races will be done with Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) and participants will be given results with splits. The event is USATF certified and sanctioned.

While we will not hold an official cut off time for these, our suggestions are as follows: Runners who can run 4:30 mins or better or 5:30 or better for women are eligible to be considered for the elite waves.
