Throwback Thursday: Kara Goucher Boulder USA XC
Today we take a look back at the magnificent career of Kara Goucher. A native of Duluth, Minnesota, Goucher attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where she was a 3x NCAA Champion, claiming two titles on the track (3k & 5k) and the coveted individual cross country title. Goucher led the 2000 Buffaloes to the team title with her sensational first place finish.
Post collegiately Kara continued her career as a professional competing for Nike under world renowned coaches Alberto Salazar and Jerry Schumacher. In 2006 Kara qualified for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships held in Fukuoka, Japan. In 2007 she made history by winning the first American medal in the women’s 10,000m at the IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan. She has previously qualified for the 2008 (5k & 10k) & 2012 (marathon) Olympic Games. She was the 2008 Olympic Trials Champion in the 5k in addition to finishing runner up in the 10K. Goucher continued her success on the roads by claiming podium finishes at two of the World Marathon Majors races in New York (3rd 2008) and Boston (3rd 2009). She was also the 2012 USA Half Marathon Champion, which was held in her hometown of Duluth, MN.
Kara recently made headlines announcing she was returning to Boulder to work with her college coaches Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs.
